We wake up with Kathy feeling ready to take on the day, although perhaps playing hurt. Over breakfast we opt for an impromptu visit to the Palace of Versailles and book a dinner at Jeorgia’s culinary selection for the day - a restaurant whose namesake is the specialty - L’escargot.
But first, another march to the Champs Elysees for our best sidewalk cafe lunch so far. Touristy yes, but enjoyable nonetheless. On the way to meet up with our Uber for the trip to Versailles, we come across a sand sculptor along with an example of his work.
After a 45 minute Uber ride we arrive in Versailles. Opulent - of course, grotesquely lavish - naturally, do we understand why the French revolted - without a doubt! But, before we lose our heads, some photos of the visit:
After an Uber ride back to the hotel to freshen up, it’s off to dinner at a restaurant specializing in snails. Jeorgia and I share a sampler of five different preparations of snails and it was quite good - can’t go wrong with butter and garlic! There is plenty of variety on offer and a great meal was had by all. Great food and a great staff made for a memorable evening.
We make it back to the hotel in time for a nightcap - a surprise visit to the lobby bar . . . . Jeorgia manages to make a French macaron out of pillows and we are fairly certain a guest has passed out at a nearby table:
After we return to our rooms I venture out to try and capture photos of the tower at night. After an hour of wandering around I’m able to accumulate a few - we’ll end today’s post with those:
